Daniel Krug speaking to an audience

I started in business control

I am Daniel Krug, a fractional and interim commercial director for start-ups, scale-ups and growing SMEs.

After my MBA I began my career as a business controller at Siemens. An unusual step, because business graduates rarely gravitate towards the numbers. There I learned what revenue is worth, how to use numbers to get to the core of a problem, and how to create value.

I have never been the typical salesperson. I analysed, calculated, built, and then the results followed. I do not hide behind numbers; I use them to get to the best result. A culture in which opinions decide is deadly for a growing company. I work from the process behind it.

About Daniel

My story

Why I work for myself

Over the past years I have seen, at every level of a young and growing organisation, what speeds growth up, and what slows it down or even does damage. I now use that knowledge and experience to give companies the strength to push through.

Career

Twelve years in corporate roles at Siemens, Imtech, Michael Page, Total, ServiceHouse and Tele2. My first experience with a start-up was within TotalEnergies. This was followed by scale-ups: CEO and CCO of Maru, and CRO of an international energy portfolio manager. My corporate background helps me and my clients create structure while keeping the speed of a start-up or scale-up. I have strong operational skills and insight into processes, and that helps me build commercial operations that keep running in day-to-day execution.

I am comfortable in national and international settings. At Maru I built partnerships in Australia and Belgium, and a direct relationship with a large Chinese distributor. Languages: Dutch, English, Spanish (good) and German (basic). From 2021 to 2023 I chaired Verhurend Nederland, the Dutch rental-industry association.

What colleagues write about me

Former colleagues and team members describe me as driven and sincere: someone who builds teams and channels quickly, motivates people, treats them as equals, and combines numbers with commerce. Read the recommendations on LinkedIn.
